Nerello Mascalese, Carricante, Catarratto

A remarkable wine from a unique terroir, this is a blend of Nerello Mascalese with small amounts of Carricante and Catarratto. The grapes sourced from a tiny plot planted in 1940 on the volcanic sands of Monte Ilice, on the southeastern slope of Mount Etna. The grapes are de-stemmed and undergo a brief maceration on the skins for less than a week before being moved to glass demijohns until the following June. This wine beautifully combines Mediterranean and volcanic elements, offering sun-kissed fruit and balsamic spices. The layered texture supported by fine tannins, bright acidity and minerals, is reminiscent of the great reds of this country.
