We are thrilled to share the new arrivals from the talented Friulian grower, Nikolas Juretic.
Based in the town of Cormons, Nikolas tends three hectares of vines in the cru Montona, facing north toward the Slovenian Brda, Pradis and Bosc di Sot on the south-facing slope. From 2023, an old plot in San Floriano del Collio has been added to the farm. With vines aged between fifty and one hundred twenty years old, surrounded by forest and free from contamination, these are among the most beautiful vineyards in the region.
Tocai Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana, Pinot Grigio and a few other white and red varieties grow on unique soils locally known as Ponca or Flysch – a mix of sandstone and marl, rich in limestone and fossils. With the help of mamma Elena and papà Roberto, Nikolas farms these unique plots following organic, biodynamic and permaculture principles.
From the fresh 2023 vintage, we received his excellent Tocai Friulano 'Mont' (formerly Toc di Montone), the immense Collio blend 'Waldo' (formerly Grande Waldo), and two new entries: 'Verjan', a Pinot Grigio blend from San Floriano del Collio, and a red wine of impossible finesse, made of Merlot, Schioppettino, and some Ribolla Gialla from the cru Montona.
We will be pouring these new releases for the trade on Monday, 2nd March, at Ducksoup in Soho - a rare opportunity to taste through the entire 2023 vintage from Nikolas.
